It's about colors or some shit. |
Hey guys, Alli here. I wanted to update my blog and just say I haven't forgotten about it. I've just been busy looking for jobs and hunkering down to write the first of two of my stories. This one is called SPECTRUM, it's kind of a weird side project I've been working on for a couple of months. And here's a weird reason as to why it's being made.
There is a popular show on youtube made by Rooster Teeth called RWBY. I gave it a chance... and I fucking hated it. I thought the plot was bare bones, the characters were flat, and the setting was uninteresting. The entire thing is an excuse for action scenes, and they barely even have them in the damn show. So I started wondering if I could possibly do any better if I tried to use my amateur writing chops and create my own interpretation with it. It went pretty swell at first, but then I noticed that I was beginning to scrap entire plot elements, everything including all of the characters, the setting, some of the plot points... It barely resembled the original work. It went from a fanservicey waifu show about teenage melodrama and getting into fights... into a strange post apocalyptic world where the young generation of people just entering adulthood need to learn how to combat strange monstrous creatures to ensure the survival of humanity.
The characters grew darker, I swapped from the Ruby gimmick to a chromatic arrangement gimmick. It turned into less slice of life and more comprehending the complex emotional relationship between people who've seen things a normal person would go insane even seeing.
So now that it has become an original setting with none of the characters intact, I can't really call it a derivative work any longer. It's more an interpretation based on an abstract concept similar to the original idea, and I'm proud of the work I've done so far.
Hopefully you will be too, as it's going to be released for free, online in a chapter by chapter format.
Tata!
