Inside Spectrum: Introduction.

I would say I was going to blow your mind, but that would mean I'm actually smart. I'm not.

Introduction:

Hey guys, Alli here. I wanted to break the silence of my own opinion after 8 or so months of writing this novel to talk to you guys about how I made and changed it around to fit something behest of my own writing style. I want to talk about my opinion on the series, where it came from, and how I based it off a source material and what I did to modify it to suit my tastes.

I think if it wasn't obvious, then I did kind of start this project when my friend, Megafighter. (At his blog, http://welcometobeacon.blogspot.com/ ) decided to review the show, RWBY. A Rooster Teeth animated series, he requested my assistance to bring up some points he could discuss. I'm not a smart person, but I love doing analysis, so I leaped at the opportunity to help draw up criticisms to help him write his reviews. I admit, I didn't like the show when I first saw it. I even hated it a little bit in the fan-hater kind of way. But as I watched it again, along with FatManFalling's review series on the show, I learned that it's more a flawed execution of a relatively decent idea.

One of the problems was I just wasn't a fan of anime conventional tropes. Is that a fault with anime as a concept? Of course not. My opinions of anime are completely subjective and vary from person to person. But I don't like the idea of most animes using basic building blocks and tropes drawn from a hat to make themselves unique. The writers of RWBY had to study a bunch of different animes to write up a show that was sort of an amalgamation of all the concepts of those shows that tended to overlap a bit too much, into something that was amorphous and lacking a proper direction or genre.

But anime isn't a genre, it's a definition describing Japanese animation. It has many genres and demographics behind it, but I'm assuming RWBY wants to be a Shonen, and from an educated guess it's supposed to be taking a lot of tropes from the show "Soul Eater." I appreciate the work they've put behind their setting, but it does suffer from inconsistent concepts and subjects. They describe things using words that don't mean the definition of what they're supposed to mean, and use character tropes instead of building the characters themselves, this means they tend to come off as dodgy or out of character if the tone of a scene changes, as each character will see themselves altered to fit the prerequisite personalities needed to actually complete the scene. Be it a reference, a joke or exposition.

I am here to talk about how I appropriated my own characters, settings and plots based off of the themes of the show, but heavily altered for the sake of telling a story I would consider at least worth reading. Not that the original show isn't worth watching, just it's flaws began to slowly outstrip it's own benefits.
